Due to the severe storms and subsequent flooding on February 15 – 25, the Department of Insurance has requested insurance companies implement a 60-day moratorium for cancellation due to nonpayment of any insurance policy in effect for any policyholder directly affected by the storms who resides within the impacted area, as well as a suspension of any penalty attached to a late payment.
This moratorium is in effect for Benton, Carroll, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Elkhart, Floyd, Fulton, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Lake, Marshall, Ohio, Perry, Pulaski, Spencer, St. Joseph, Starke, Switzerland, Warrick, and White counties.
The moratorium is in effect from March 2 – May 1. However, Indiana Farmers will apply the moratorium retroactively back to the beginning of the event (February 15), if necessary. This is not a waiver; it simply extends the period to pay the premium. Policyholders will be expected to resume making premium payments after May 1.
Please let us know if you have any questions or hear about any concerns from affected policyholders.
