PHP leaving the Affordable Care Act

PHP Fort WaynePhysicians Health Plan (PHP) announced today that it will leave the ACA’s Indiana marketplace in 2017. PHP advised that medical expenses are exceeding premiums by 20%, or $1.20 in health care costs for every $1.00 in premium received. The move will affect PHP’s thousands of customers.


Recipe of the Month: Pasta Bolognese Sauce

This delicious sauce is easy to make and takes a little time but is worth the wait! Serve it with any kind of pasta. It tastes great with rice as well. Perfect for your college dorm mates to give them a break from fast food. Enhance it with your favorite vegetables and other additions to make it even better!   

Pasta Bolognese Sauce Pasta Bolognese SaucePrep Time 30 min

Cook Time 1 hr 30 min

Total Time 2 hr

  1. 1/4 cup water
  2. 1/4 cup dried porcini mushrooms
  3. 3/4 cup white wine
  4. 1/2 small carrot
  5. 1/2 small onion
  6. 1/4 cup pancetta (Italian bacon)
  7. 1 can whole tomatoes
  8. 1 tbsp butter
  9. 1 clove garlic
  10. 3/4 lb meat loaf mix (group beef + veal)
  11. 1 link Italian sausage (casing removed)
  12. 1 cup whole milk
  13. 1 tbsp tomato paste
  14. Rigatoni pasta
  1. Microwave 1/4 cup of water and dried porcini for about 1 minute. Let the mushrooms soak for 5 minutes until soft. Drain and save mushroom water for later.
  2. In a saute pan, reduce 3/4 cups of dry white wine to about 1/3 cup. Save for later.
  3. Using a food processor, pulse carrot and onion together.
  4. Cut pancetta into 1 inch pieces and pulse in a food processor.
  5. Pulse the can of tomatoes in food processor until finely chopped.
  6. In a saute pan, melt 2 tbsp of butter. Add pancetta and cook for 2 minutes, until browned.
  7. Stir in vegetable mixture and mushrooms for 5 minutes, adding a clove of garlic.
  8. Add meat loaf mix and sausage with casing removed. Cook until meat mixture is well broken down.
  9. Add milk and cook until the liquid is gone and meat is sizzling (20 minutes).
  10. Add tomato paste, tomatoes, mushroom liquid, salt and pepper and bring to a simmer.
  11. After 15 minutes, add reduced wine and cook for a few more minutes.
  12. Serve with pasta.

Fort Wayne Uber drivers unaffected by City insurance requirements

Fort Wayne UberWhile the City of Fort Wayne has been grappling with raising insurance requirements on taxi companies, ride-sharing programs like Uber will likely be unaffected.

Understandably, some cab operators are irritated by the discrepancy. Yellow Cab owner Hassan Nassor told The News-Sentinel, “What regulations do they have to follow? They shouldn’t be able to operate at all.”

Most personal auto policies specifically exclude coverage for damage caused while collecting a fee to transport others.
