Indiana Workers Comp Information

Indiana Independent Contractors Waiver Form

Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Indiana Worker's Compensation Board

Effective July 1, 2001 Indiana Code IC 22-3-7 requires that all individuals requesting an Independent Contractors Exception Certificate must first be verified by the Indiana Department of Revenue.    By law the Comp Board cannot provide an independent contractor a certificate of exemption until the Department of Revenue verifies no taxes are currently owed.

In order to receive an independent contractor certificate of exemption:

  1. Go to State Government Complex North Building - RM N105

  2. The Department of Revenue will verify that your taxes are current.

  3. The Department of Revenue provides a processed certificate to the Workers Comp Board located in the Government Center South Building, Room W196.

  4. The Worker’s Comp Board will check to see that your trade is allowable under the act and, if so, will complete processing and provide a certificate of exemption.  A certificate becomes effective (7) days after the date it is validated by The Worker's Compensation Board.

The following Building & Construction trades are eligible:

Asbestos worker, asbestos abatement, boilermaker, bricklayer, carpenter, cement mason, drywall finisher, drywall installer, electrician, elevator constructor, floor covering installer, framers, glazier, hod carrier, ironworker, construction laborer, millwright, operating engineer, painter, paperhanger, pipe fitter & steamfitter, plastering, plumber, tuck pointer/cleaner/caulker, roofer, sheet metal worker, siding installer, sound and communication, sprinkler fitter, stone mason, technical engineer, terrazzo.
