PHASE II - The Shopping Boardwalk
Target: Shoppers/Tourists/
River
Greenway Destination
The Shopping Boardwalk provides over
55 unique shops featuring art galleries, antiques, stained glass,
metal work, candy and traditional pizza and ice
cream parlors for shopping enthusiasts.
Just across the Fourth Street Promenade from
the Rail Museum,
this exclusive shopping area sits atop the flood levy and continues the timbered facade theme of the Old
Fort Water Park and Fort
Flea Market to the north. Visitors may travel to and from
Headwaters Park via three pedestrian bridges including the Martin Luther
King bridge and
Wells Street pedestrian bridge. Tourists and
residents enjoy exploring the many treasures available year-round under
the cover of inviting porches. At dusk, gas lamps illuminate the
boardwalk for strollers, while Headwaters Park visitors
enjoy the view of subtly lit shops from across the river. The Boardwalk
begins at the foot of the MLK bridge and extends to the
Wells Street Corridor for additional shopping opportunities. Shoppers may enjoy a break from
their exploits on the Riverboat Pavilion overlooking Headwaters
Park and downtown Fort Wayne. The Headwaters
Sky Ride and Ferris Wheel
attractions are located at the end of the Boardwalk by the Wells Street
Pedestrian Bridge Triangle.

Many visitors choose to park directly in front of their
favorite shop. During inclement weather, the majority utilize our
underground five acre parking facility adjacent to the Old
Fort Water Park Resort. Underground parking entrances are
conveniently located next to the Rail
Museum as well as a covered entrance on the Boardwalk itself.
No need to wait for the weather to clear to do your shopping here! This
area is easily accessed via the River Greenway walking and bike path which
runs directly beneath the Boardwalk. Riverboat cruises to and from
Swinney, Foster, and Tillman Parks facilitate pedestrian transportation within the
area. Overview
